A Holy Door is a symbol of oneness with the Universal Church i.e. the mission of the Ordinariates

WHAT IS A HOLY DOOR ?

Pictures : Daniel Abel
A Holy Door is a symbol of oneness with the Universal Church. It is also a symbol of convocation, an invitation to persons of good will to enter, whatever their religious denominations.
It is a visual symbol of internal renewal, which begins with the willing desire to make peace with God, reconcile with your neighbors, restore in yourself everything that has been damaged in the past, and reshape your heart through conversion..
Cardinal-designate Archbishop Gérald Cyprien Lacroix
The Holy Door serves to remind today’s pilgrims of all those who came before us to bring the Catholic faith from France to “New France.” May it serve as a visible sign of faith for future generations.

July Pilgrimage to Notre-Dame de Québec for the 350th Jubilee

My wife and I will be making another pilgrimage to my native province of Quebec this summer to enter the holy door of the cathedral of Quebec, the primatial see of the Church in Canada.

This pilgrimage is on the occasion of the jubilee year celebrating the 350th anniversary of the founding of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Québec, North America’s first Catholic parish north of the Spanish colonies.

The Holy See has granted the parish the special privilege of installing a Holy Door. This door—the first outside Europe and the only one in the Americas—will be the only Holy Door open in 2014.

For those interested in registering for a group pilgrimage or making a virtual visit to the cathedral, see the website:   350th anniversary of Notre Dame de Québec
Interior of Notre-Dame de Québec,
I am applying to Quebec's new Cardinal Lacroix to have the privilege of saying an Ordinariate Use Mass in the Cathedral (pray for us) and will post D.V. the date in case any of our Canadian, US, British, Aussie or other friends are on pilgrimage this summer.

receiving the red biretta in a consistory at St. Peter's  Feb.22, 2014.
On the way we hope to visit the Shrine of St. Anne de Beaupré, a famous shrine of healing, known to some as the North American Lourdes.

We have also planned a mini-retreat at St. Benoît-du- lac in the Eastern Townships of Quebec where our friend, and a prayer warrior for the Ordinariate,  Father Charles "Chip" Gilman is a member of the community.

Fr. Chip is an American former Episcopalian priest who was received into full communion and became a member of the Benedictine community in St. Benoît some years ago. He was a congenial host when a number of us visited New York in the 1980s for Trinity Institute conferences. Fr. Chip and the sisters in the neighbouring convent pray for STM and the Ordinariate daily and we are very grateful to them.

Vistas of St. Benoît du lac
Those who are interested in a retreat here should visit: Abbaye de St. Benoît-du-lac website (English)

Last summer we spent time in Chateauguay, just south of Montreal where we paid several visits to the shrine of the newly canonized St. Kateri Tekakwitha (more about this on another posting).  We noted a number of U.S. visitors and hope that visits to La Belle Province from south of the border increase now that St. Kateri is canonized - the first native North American woman to enter the universal canon of saints.

In Quebec City we hope to visit the tomb of Msgr. François de Laval, the first bishop of Quebec, whose cause for sainthood is proceeding. He was beatified in 1980.  Again, more about him later as well.

Please let us know if you are planning a pilgrimage this summer.

During Lent we will also be gathering at STM for Stations of the Cross on Sunday afternoons at 4 pm.

Pope Francis has asked that churches make an effort to have more "open time" so that people can make it a habit to come in to pray before the Blessed Sacrament, light a candle or just sit quietly with the Lord.

We are making an effort this Lent to reach out to those in the community to invite them in.

Joy in Rome . . . Msgr Steenson, Ordinary POCSP meets with Pope Francis

It was a joyful gathering as members of the North American Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter met with Pope Francis this week in Rome.

Photos of the event will be followed with a report about the meeting of the three Ordinaries from the UK, NA and Australia to determine directions for the Ordinariates and our role in the New Evangelization.

Evensong offered for special intentions during Lent at STM

Lenten Daily Office Ordo for St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Toronto
Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter

As a mission church we are committed to praying the Daily Office. During Lent every family and individual is asked to offer EVENING PRAYER for:

+ the intentions of the Church and the Holy Father

+  for the role of STM in the New Evangelization

+ for outreach to those who would be brought into the full communion of the Catholic Church through the Personal Ordinariate from many backgrounds and experiences.

A PRAYER FOR THE HOLY FATHER
O GOD, the pastor and ruler of all the faithful, mercifully look upon thy servant Francis whom thou hast been pleased to set as pastor over thy Church: grant him, we beseech Thee, to be in word and teaching a wholesome example to the people committed to his charge; that he with them may attain unto eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We pray that by the grace of the Holy Spirit and the Sacred Heart of Jesus we may worship and serve God in the beauty of holiness and so be sustained and grow as a community of faith in the midst of the city.

Our thanks to Tim Smith for assembling the material for the Canadian version of the Ordinariate Ordo in compliance with the Roman Lectionary and the Universal Calendar of the Catholic Church.

This work assumes the form of the Daily Office presented in the Book of Divine Worship [BDW] is used. The lectionary included is also that of the BDW with the exceptions as noted in the Appendix. Assembled 2013, Tim Smith. Please report any errors to Tim Smith (observer@telusplanet.net)
