JUBILEE OF MERCY IN TORONTO

NEW YEAR UPDATE – JUBILEE OF MERCY

STM, Toronto is planning with Newman Centre, Our Lady of Lourdes and other Catholic groups to participate corporately in the Jubilee Year of Mercy by sharing in the corporal works of mercy, visiting together designated holy doors along with Confession, Holy Communion and praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.

These activities provide plenary indulgences i.e. a special grace which removes the ongoing penalties of forgiven sin. STM also plans to jointly host a series of talks on the Jubilee Year, the New Evangelization, the Ordinariates and related topics.

We are inviting Bishop Steven Lopes, the new Ordinary of the Personal Ordinariate and others to visit, deliver lectures and celebrate the extraordinary gift of Mercy with us. See our website stmtoronto.ca  for updates on talks, community activities and other initiatives.

CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY
•  To feed the hungry
•  To give drink to the thirsty
•  To clothe the naked
•  To harbour the homeless
•  To visit the sick
•  To visit/ redeem prisoners
•  To bury the dead

SPIRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY
•  To instruct the ignorant
•  To counsel the doubtful
•  To admonish sinners
•  To bear wrongs patiently
•  To forgive offences willingly
•  To comfort the afflicted
•  To pray for the living & the dead

In order to accomplish these works we pray for the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.    Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1831
